"We mortals, men and women, devour many dissapointment between breakfast and dinner-time; keep back the tears and look a little pale about the lips, and in answer to inquiries say, "Oh nothing!" Pride helps us; and pride is not a bad thing when it only urges us to hide our own hurts--not to hurt others."

('Middlemarch' - George Eliot)

"It is troublesome to talk to such women. They are always wanting reasons, yet they are too ignorant to understand the merits of any question, and usually fall back on their moral sense to settle things after their own taste."

(why do I get the sense that I am one of those women. Oh, and it's from 'Middlemarch' too. Haven't decided whether it is a good thing or a bad thing, though. Being one of those women. But Middlemarch is great, so far.)
